Football club pays tribute to journalist Adrian Sudbury

Huddersfield Town footballers wore black armbands in memory of journalist Adrian Sudbury at their League Cup match against Sheffield United.

They paid tribute to Mr Sudbury's successful campaign to raise awareness of leukaemia and the bone marrow donation register run by the Anthony Nolan Trust.

The club is also donating 50p from each matchday programme sold to the trust, which runs one of the UK's two bone marrow registers and matches leukaemia sufferers with donors.

Mr Sudbury, a reporter with the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, died last week after an 18-month battle with the disease.

Huddersfield Town media manager Alisdair Straughan said Mr Sudbury was an inspiration to a great many people and the team wore black armbands yesterday out of respect for him and the work he did.

"Sudders' quest to bring into the public eye the need for donors and raise greater awareness of the illness captured hearts and imaginations locally and nationally and if we can supplement what he did in any way that's a positive thing," he said.
