A Royal Marine from 40 Commando was shot dead by insurgents in Afghanistan this afternoon.
He is the third soldier from the same unit to die in three days.
On Sunday, Marine Richard Hollington died in a Birmingham hospital from injuries he sustained in an explosion in Afghanistan on 12 June.
Yesterday a second Marine was killed in an explosion.
The most recent deaths brought the total of troops killed since fighting began to 302.
The Marines killed yesterday and today have not yet been publicly named but their next of kin have been informed.
