Bomb disposal expert killed in Afghanistan was also proud father

The Ministry of Defence has announced the name of the British bomb disposal expert killed in Afghanistan at the weekend.

Corporal Jamie Kirkpatrick was fatally wounded in a small gun battle with insurgents on Sunday.

He served with the 101 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) an was part of the part of the Counter-IED Task Force in Helmand.

The 32-year-old was originally from Edinburgh and lived in Llanelli in South Wales.

He and his wife Heidi had one daughter, Holly.

They said he was “a larger than life individual” and “a proud soldier, friend, brother, husband and daddy.”
